Hand out flyers around town: Save the San Marcos Foothills is seeking individuals to help with person-to-person communication, which is found to be the most effective way to raise money and awareness. Volunteers will visit the locations below and approach individuals or stand in place to inform the community about saving the foothills from development, and encourage them to donate on the spot. Paper and digital flyers will be provided. Masks must be worn at all times when volunteering, and social distancing is required. It is highly encouraged to ask individuals to take a photo of the flyer instead of physically taking one. Expected hours: 1-2 hours per week.

Locations available:

  • SB Farmers Market on Cota, Saturday (8:30-1:00)

  •
SB Farmers Market on State, Tuesday (2:45-6:30)

  • Goleta Farmers Market in Camino Real Marketplace, Sunday (10-2:00)

  • Montecito Farmers Market on Coast Village Road, Friday (8-11:15)

Observe and Document Wildlife

A position for kids and teenagers learning about ecology, as well as animal experts. Wander the Foothills and document the species you see. Take pictures or draw the species, and note their habits and characteristics. In the chance that someone spots a rare species, it can change the entire outcome of this development...so this role is crucial! Expected hours: 1-2 hours per week.
